Last week, The Grand Theatre Project launched in downtown Paris and now the organization has released ‘before and after’ photos giving locals a glimpse into what the theatre currently looks like.

“It’s going to take a lot of work to restore The Grand back to her former glory,” said president of the Grand Theatre Project Julia Trigg Crawford. “The first step is insurance and the removal of asbestos before we can really get in there and start working.”

Constructed in 1937, The Grand Theatre was the largest theatre in Lamar County for over fifty years, and its fly-loft was the tallest west of the Mississippi. In 1980 a second screen was added to compete with the expanding cinema industry and it was renamed The Grand Twin. In 1997, The Grand became a discount theatre and was named the Grand Dollar Theatre before closing shortly thereafter.

Along with releasing never before seen photos, The Grand Theatre Project is asking locals to share their memories from The Grand.
