Lamar County Meals on Wheels will now be providing hot nutritious meals to veterans in our area through their new ‘Meals for Vets’ program.

“We are always looking for ways to serve more of our community,” operations manager Cara Welch. “Shelly, our Executive Director, found out about this program and was eager to get this started. We are hopeful that it will help a lot of people in our community that hasn’t been able to receive help.”

Anyone between the ages of 18-59 that has 180 days of active military service can fill out an application that then it is sent to Honor Veterans for approval.

“Once we get the service authorization we can start meal delivery to that person,” said Welch. “Veterans would get the same meal that we serve all of our clients, which is a diabetic friendly meal prepared by our kitchen.”

For more information regarding eligibility please contact our office at 903/784-2580.
