The State Fair of Texas is almost here and, as usual, there will be plenty new food creation to try this year including the newly announced, ‘Big Tex Choice Award’ winners.
On Sunday, concessionaires competed for the titles of best savory dish, best sweet dish, and most creative.
And the winners are…
BEST TASTE – SAVORY: Ruth’s Stuffed Fried Taco Cone by Ruth Hauntz
Tender, savory, marinated and slow-cooked barbacoa served in an ice cream cone-shaped tortilla shell with black beans and cilantro lime rice. It is topped with pico de gallo, queso fresco and homemade salsa verde.
BEST TASTE – SWEET: Big Red Chicken Bread by Brent & Juan Reaves
This interesting combo is a donut with Big Red soda mixed into the batter with a fried chicken wing sitting inside of the hole with sunglasses on.
MOST CREATIVE: Fla’Mango Tango by The Garza Family
Once you’ve gorged on the savory items, treat yourself to a refreshingly creamy mango twist, fried and drizzled with a kicky citrus glaze, topped with whipped topping and served with a side of strawberry mango sorbet.
All of the winning dishes will be up for grabs at the state fair open from Sept. 27 through Oct. 20.
