The threat of credit and debit card skimmers has grown in both number and sophistication in recent years. These days, you can’t fill up your gas tank or withdraw cash from an ATM without the risk of becoming the next victim of a skimmer.
The Paris Police Department wants the citizens of Paris and Lamar County to know the risk and also what you can do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim to theft.
“Businesses who accept debit and credit cards for payment make is so quick and easy for the consumer,” said Chief of Police Bob Hundley. “Unfortunately, criminals are always looking for a vulnerability in any financial transaction they can’t take advantage of.”
“These external card skimmers are easy to miss but again we have to have that awareness of the risk associated with technology. Check these machines and look for the tamper resistant tape. The business doesn’t want the customer or themselves to be a victim.”
