It’s one of the most anticipated events in Lamar County each year and for those attending the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial annual fundraiser, they can expect a few changes.
Set for Oct. 3 at Drake’s Party Barn, event organizer Johnny Williams said they are opening up the dance floor with a ‘Western Swing‘.
“We wanted a change for this year’s event and what better way to enjoy a night out than with some good ole’ fashion country-western swing music,” said Williams. “We had a lot of feedback from people who were looking for a little more music on the night.”
Hailey Sandoz and Kristyn Harris will be kicking the night off at 6 p.m. followed by Jody Nix at 7 p.m. before headliner Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys take the stage at 9:15 p.m.
“When it came to the live auction this year, I had mentioned to the board that I didn’t think it would be right considering the current economic status from COVID-19. So with that, they agreed to scrap the traditional live auction this year. Instead, we will be auctioning off an aerial photo taken by Tony Corso on the night,” explained Williams of another change to this year’s event.
Tickets for the event are still available, click here to purchase tickets online. Tickets are $55 per person or $635 for a table of eight. $65 if purchased at the gate on the night at Drake’s Party Barn located at 6090 US Highway 271 N, Powderly.
“We will be doing our best to keep patrons safe, and all food handlers will be wearing gloves and masks while serving,” said Williams.
There will also be two beer stations set up on the night to help with congestion and those who wish to wear a mask are welcomed to though it is not required on the night.
“We have had some great sponsors come on board this year that have helped cover most of the costs for the event. So we aren’t asking for donations, but will have donation jars set up in case anyone wishes to donate further to the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial,” said Williams.
