On Jan. 13, An officer stopped a vehicle in the 2300 block of E. Price for an equipment violation. He made contact with the driver, Donald Gary Combs (54). Upon contact the officer smelled the odor of Marijuana and observed a marijuana cigarette in the passenger seat of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle and Combs revealed a baggie of marijuana in Combs’ pocket as well as further marijuana in the console of the vehicle. During the search the officer also located further narcotics (Methamphetamine) in the vehicle. Combs was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Since the arrest and possession was within 1000 feet of a city park, the charge was enhanced.
On Jan. 13, Officers stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of Bonham St. after observing the vehicle to have an expired registration sticker. Contact was made with the driver, Broderick Desmond Nickerson (47). Nickerson told officers his license had been suspended, but would not respond when asked how long the license had been suspended. He denied possession of weapons or narcotics, but did advise officers he was on Parole. As officers continued to interview Nickerson they developed the opinion that Nickerson was under the influence of narcotics, alcohol or both. They had Nickerson to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety test, which he failed. Officers searched the vehicle and located several items of narcotics paraphernalia in the vehicle including pipes and a spoon with a melted substance adhering to the surface. Nickerson was taken to a medical facility where blood was drawn. He was booked and placed in jail. Later, Nickerson was found to be in possession of several baggies of cocaine within his jail cell. The packaging of the narcotics indicated an intent to sell. Nickerson was charged with DWI, Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility.
On Jan. 13, Officers were notified of a Burglary of Business in the 1800 block of Bonham St. Suspects smashed a drive through window of the business and made entry. Suspects then stole cash and an Ipad. Officers collected evidence at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Officers made 20 traffic stops, 4 adult arrest, and answered 93 calls for service during this reporting period.
