Fri. Dec. 20 at 8:41pm; Paris EMS and Paris PD responded to the 2400 block of Lamar Avenue to a major auto-pedestrian accident. The pedestrian, observed with head and face trauma, was transported from the scene to Paris Regional Health Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The pedestrian has been identified as 36-year-old Crystal Star Cox of Paris and is believed to have fail to yield right of way to vehicle. The next of kin have been notified. The vehicle driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, that will be continued through the Paris Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
Sat. Dec. 21 at 03:00am; sleeping residents in the 1700 block of West Shiloh Street were awakened to the sound of a loud bang and to discover a vehicle inside their residence and damage to an outside chain link fence. The driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated-Class B, alleged that he was being chased and shot at by a subject, after leaving a club in the 300 block of Clement Road, before the accident occurred. No injuries were reported by the residents.
Sat. Dec. 21 at 09:43am; a Family Disturbance was reported in the 500 block of Bonham Street. The victim stated what started as a verbal argument, led to her being chocked. She stated that it was difficult for her to breathe during the
strangulation and believed she was going to die. While she was attempting to call 9-1-1, her phone was taken. 65-year-old Donald Ross Chism admitted to taking her phone to prevent a 9-1-1 call but denied the chocking. Chism was subsequently taken into custody for Assault, Family Violence/Strangulation – 3rd Degree Felony, and Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance – Class A Misdemeanor and booked into the Paris Jail. The victim requested an Emergency Protective Order.
Sat. Dec. 21 at 2:37pm; a Burglary of a Residence was reported in the 300 block of NW 4th Street. The victim stated that she had not been at the residence for approximately 2 weeks and arrived to observe that the residence has been
rummaged through. She noticed the back door and a window were open and damaged. She knows items were stolen but can’t determine what. Video camera footage was provided to assist with the investigation.
Sun. Dec. 22 at 10:49pm; a Paris Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Polk Street for an expired registration violation and identified the three vehicle occupants. The driver, 35-year-old Kala Michelle Akins of Chicota was asked to exit the vehicle. When Akins exited the vehicle, clear baggies containing crystalline substance, determined to be methamphetamine, were laying in plain view. A second Paris Officer arrived to assist, and the other occupants were requested to exit the vehicle. A purse, containing a pill bottle, with the name Harris written, contained a baggie of substance, determined to be meth was located in the back seat, near where Back seat passenger, 61-year-old Brenda Lee Harris of Blossom was sitting. Akins and Harris were both arrested for Felony-Possession of Controlled Substance-Meth. The front passenger was released from the scene.
Fri. Dec. 20 through Sun. Dec. 22, 2024: The Paris Police Department responded to 167 Calls for Service, made 10 Adult Arrest, and Initiated 53 Traffic Stops.
