On Aug. 2, Officers stopped a vehicle in the 2400 block of N. Main and made contact with Daniel Turner (36). Turner was driving a vehicle which had a registration sticker which had been expired for over a year. A warrant check revealed that Turner had an outstanding warrant from Red River County for Possession of a Controlled Substance, a felony. Turner was booked on the warrant and taken to Lamar County Jail.
On Aug. 3, an officer observed a vehicle run a stop sign in the 2400 block of Stillhouse Road, almost striking the officer’s patrol vehicle. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, accelerating west on NE Loop 286. The driver then exited at N. Main and Loop 286, running the red light, and striking another vehicle in the intersection. The driver, Ilmi Mehmeti (31) exited his vehicle and did not attempt to evade further. The driver of the other vehicle struck by Mehmeti was injured and transported to medical facilities. Mehmeti as well as a passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries. Mehmeti was found to be intoxicated and admitted to having been drinking in a bar. Both Mehmeti and his passenger were evaluated by EMS personnel and cleared. Mehmeti was charged with DWI and Evading Arrest in a vehicle, a Felony. It was found that Mehmeti had 2 prior convictions for DWI. He was subsequently charged with DWI 3rd or More, a Felony. He was transported without incident.
On Aug. 4, Officers came into contact with Vicinte Aragon (55) in the 1800 block of S. Church due to an equipment violation. Aragon was found to be driving erratically, swerving in his lane and failing to maintain a single lane of traffic. He was stopped in the 1700 block SE 6th. Eragon admitted to having been drinking alcoholic beverages and was found to be intoxicated. Aragon had an 11 year old in the vehicle with him as well as open containers of alcohol. He failed field sobriety testing and was arrested for DWI with a Child under 15 years of age in the vehicle, a State Jail Felony. He was arrested without incident.
On Aug. 8, Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 1100 block of SE 34th. They met a victim who advised that the suspect, Gabrielle Monet Hilburn (17) came to the residence to try and fight the victim. The victim attempted to shut the door but Hilburn forced entry to the door and assaulted the victim until a witness intervened. Hilburn, who had been stopped leaving the scene, was arrested and charged with Burglary of Habitation. She was booked without incident.
On Aug. 4, at approximately 0615 Officers were dispatched to NE 20th and E. Cherry. The driver of a vehicle had lost control and driven into the West Wall of the residence. There was substantial damage to the residence and the vehicle as well as damage to some parked vehicles due to falling debris. No one inside the residence was injured but the driver had minor injuries. The incident is still under investigation.
Officers made 69 traffic stops, 12 adult arrest, and answered 293 calls for service for this reporting period.
