Paris Police arrested 32-year old Patrick Alan Daigh on Saturday, charged with ‘Cruelty to Animals,’ after cellphone footage showed him beating and strangling a dog, as well as “slamming the dog’s head into the concrete sidewalk while holding the collar.”
Shortly before midnight, people responded to the 2500 block of N. Main Street and made contact with Daigh who was acting erratically.
According to reports, Daigh was screaming, yelling and using profane language, claiming that several subjects, now gone, had been harassing him.
Officers had already investigated one complaint of this type of behavior involving Daigh at the same location.
He continued to use profanity in a loud voice and was warned to control himself or possibly face charges of Disorderly Conduct.
Daigh had a dog with him in a shopping cart and was questioned about abuse of the dog to which he answered he was holding the dog by the collar and then began cursing again. Daigh was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.
A bystander produced a cellphone and showed officers video of Daigh beating the dog with his hand as well as picking the dog up by the collar and strangling it.
Daigh was also seen on the video slamming the dog’s head into the concrete sidewalk while holding the collar.
He was also charged with Cruelty to Animals,(non-livestock), a Felony and was booked and placed in jail.
The animal was taken as evidence and will be seized.
