With basketball season coming soon, North Lamar High School’s basketball coaches are being proactive. Panthers head basketball coach David Monds and Pantherettes head basketball coach Taqoya Monds recently organized an online fundraiser to help benefit the student athletes in their program. The deadline to order North Lamar basketball-themed merchandise from the website is Sunday, Oct. 25.
The Monds coaches got the plan into action, but help from parents was huge in giving the fundraiser the traction it deserves.
“One of the basketball parents was approached by T-Shirt Shoppe with the idea,” Taqoya Monds said of the fundraiser. “They knew the basketball program needed some things and wanted to help in any way they could. David and I were allowed to come up with the design, and we felt it would be a great opportunity to highlight the family dynamic that exists between the boys and girls basketball programs. There is strength in unity.”
All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to North Lamar’s boys and girls basketball programs. The donations will help in many ways for each of the programs, specifically with innovative ways of studying film along with protection from the current global pandemic.
“Currently North Lamar is one of two schools in our district that does not have complete access to all of the features of Hudl,” Taqoya Monds said. “This is a filming platform that records games and aids in film exchange. Hudl offers an assist program that will compile game stats for teams. This feature creates a huge advantage for teams and, not only does it serve as a wonderful teaching tool, but also creates opportunities for players to get scouted by colleges. In addition to the video software, both programs would like to be in a position to order additional PPE for players in an effort to protect the teams from Covid through the season.”
Whether it entails selling merchandise or practicing ahead of the 2020-21 season, there should be plenty for fans to get excited about with basketball at North Lamar.
“Fans should expect a level of excitement that is completely off the charts for both the girls and boys basketball programs,” Taqoya Monds said. “We have a special group of young ladies and gentlemen who work super hard while striving in purpose, while displaying integrity.”
In addition to the Oct. 25 deadline, orders will be available beginning on Friday, Nov. 6. Orders can be either delivered or picked up on campus. All orders will be processed once the website closes. The merchandise varies from T-shirts to hoodies and sweaters. The prices of the products range anywhere from $15 to $25. For more North Lamar ISD news, click here.
