National Police Week Memorial Service

Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass and Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley announced the National Police Week Memorial Service for Lamar County will be held Friday, May 18th at 6:00 PM at Bywaters Park in downtown Paris.

“We are proud to have Sergeant Bryan Shaw, a police officer with the Dallas County Community College District as the speaker for Friday’s memorial service,” said Chief Hundley.

Sergeant Shaw survived the deadly attack on police officers in downtown Dallas on July 7th, 2016.

“Sgt. Shaw exchanged gunfire with the suspect and did not realize he had been shot and injured until later in the evening,” added Chief Hundley.

Each officer’s name who has been killed in the line of duty in Lamar County will be read in roll call by officers.

Following the reading of the names of the fallen, a 21 Gun Salute will be presented along with the playing of taps by the Paris Police Department Honor Guard.

The ceremony will end with a presentation of Amazing Grace on bagpipes by a Texas DPS Honor Guard member, Trooper Joel Hanks and a release of balloons.

Lamar County Sheriff James Black – EOW November 16th, 1884

Lamar County Deputy Sheriff Henry Clay Davis – EOW December 27th, 1885

Blossom City Marshal Ben J. Hill – EOW October 19th, 1902

Paris Police Officer William Cliff Schultz – EOW March 6th, 1904

Lamar County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable William Robert Draper – EOW February 5th, 1909

Paris Police Officer Duane Cross – EOW July 20th, 1920

Lamar County Sheriff Chief Deputy George Robertson – EOW Sept. 10th, 1940

Texas ABC Agent Delbert Pearson – EOW January 18th, 1973

Paris Police Officer David Roberts – EOW Sept. 21st, 1985

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jeffery Nichols – EOW March 26th, 2016
