Local dancers competing at the VIP Dance event in Ft. Worth has already won multiple awards and there’s still two days of competition left.
Britney’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio’s competition team, consisting of 24 dancers between the ages of 4-years-old to 19-years-old, will compete in 30 dances over the four days.
“There are some amazing dancers here and we’ve had some stiff competition, but my dancers have proved to me, yet again, they can hold their own on stage. They seriously amaze me,” said the owner of Britney’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio, Britney Drake
Those dances are made up of solo’s, duets, trios and group dances competing in jazz, lyrical, contemporary, musical theater and tap.
“We also do a production that includes all 24 dancers which is a circus theme from the popular musical ‘Pippin’,” said Britney.
Auditions for the competition team were held in June 2017, followed by a competition camp in August where the team learned all the choreography for group dances that week.
“These dancers work very hard and they not only take dance, but they also do conditioning and stretching to prepare their body,” explained Britney, “I am always telling my dancers that winning isn’t everything and a trophy will sit on a mantle and collect dust, but a true winner finds inner strength and explores themselves every-time they take the stage.”
Britney’s Steppin’ out Dance Studio opened in 2015 and quickly grew from 75 students to now over 141 students.
“We’ve got a great team and my studio wouldn’t run without my amazing Artistic Director, Jessica Kelley,” added Britney.
“I am overjoyed and so blessed to be apart of the Paris community and the fact that I get to share a little piece of BSODS with our small town is icing on the cake.”
