The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new scam targeting DIRECTV customers.
“Our office has been made aware of a new scam targeting DIRECTV customers,” said the LCSO. “Scammers are calling, texting, or emailing while pretending to be DIRECTV offering “special deals,” “bill reductions,” or saying you must upgrade equipment.”
The caller demands payment up front — often with gift cards or prepaid cards — and sometimes even shows up at homes claiming to be DIRECTV representatives.
“Remember, DIRECTV will never ask you to pay with gift cards or prepaid cards. If someone pressures you to act immediately, it’s a scam.”
If you do believe a someone is trying to scam you, hang up or delete suspicious messages, do not give out personal or account info and call DIRECTV using the number on your bill to verify any offers.
Report suspicious activity to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office at 903-737-2400 or your local Law Enforcement Agency.
