With 125 officers protecting and serving Lamar County, Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop has set noon today for its latest adoption event. Adoptions are available at 12 p.m. today on the organization’s Facebook page here.
Each year the organization puts officers up for adoption and presents them with gift bags filled with various police supplies. These bags will contain items officers find useful while on duty and help keep them safe.
Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop President Amanda Willows said when the organization posts its adoption event at 12 p.m. today on Facebook here, adopters can comment, “I back our blue,” to make the $35 adoption. The organization will then respond to the commenter in a private message with an officer’s name or they can request a specific officer if available. Adopters will also be able to call 903-905-1229.
“We want our officers to know that we feel so blessed to have such amazing officers in Lamar County,” Willows said. “We want them to know they are appreciated and supported by our community. We are also blessed by a wonderful community that appreciates those who protect and serve us each and every day.”
The adoption gifts will be presented to the officers on National Thank a Police Officer Day, Sept. 18, at South Main Iron at the Lamar County Adopt a Cop Block Party.
For the officers unable to attend the Lamar County Adopt a Cop Block Party, the organization will deliver the remaining gifts to the respected departments.
“We have exciting announcements coming up about the event that day,” Willows said. “I’m so excited!”
Willows wanted to give a special thanks to Mathews Auto Group-Paying It Forward, “who has purchased exciting gifts to add to the gift bags this year as their way of paying it forward to our officers.” She also wants to thank South Main Iron and Load Trail “for helping us put the event together for our amazing officers.”
