U.S. Veteran

Kenneth William Sands, 85 of Paris, entered Heaven’s gates on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 11:00 A.M., at Blodgett Cemetery in Titus County with Rev. Chris Kelley officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Kenneth was born in Zwolle, Louisiana on December 29, 1933, to Roscoe and Inez Schell Sands. He served two years in the United States Army and ended up making his home in Pittsburg, Texas with the love of his life, Alphia Jo, whom he married on July 16, 1959. Together they built 52 wonderful years of memories until she passed away in 2012.

Kenneth spent his whole life working as a laborer, husband, and father. You never saw him sitting around. He was either building something or fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone that knew him. He loved everyone and was a friend to all. Kenneth would do anything to help someone in need, even a stranger he just met. We are at peace knowing that he is with our Lord and that Jo was waiting for him at Heaven’s gate.

He leaves behind those that miss him greatly, sons, Lonnie Layton and wife Laura, Kenny Wayne Sands and wife Kimberly; brother, Harold Sands; grandchildren, Erik Layton and wife Kerri, Lonna Lewis and husband Bubba, Kenny Sands, Jr., Amanda Sands and husband Colby, Anette Canup, Lacinda Conley and husband Mario; 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; parents, Roscoe and Inez Sands; an infant son and sons, Larry Layton, James Sands; brothers, Jerry Sands, Wayne Sands; grandson, Matthew Layton.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Stillhouse Nursing and Rehab Center, which Kenneth called home for the last year. Thank you for all your care, concern and love you showed to him.

The family requests memorials are made in Kenneth’s honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
