Joy Leigh Carter, 53, of Pattonville, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 14th, at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
Born on April 24, 1972, in Alexander City, Alabama, to Ronnie and Brenda Bishop, Joy’s life was a testament to the power of Jesus Christ’s love and kindness.
As a child, she lived in Kermit, Texas, where she met her childhood sweetheart, Brian Keith Carter, and their love story began. Joy and Brian married on September 18, 1998, and together they had four beautiful children: Amanda Rodriguez and her husband, Juan; Justin Wise and his wife, Claudia; Alex Carter; and Donald Carter.
She was a loving Mimi to six precious grandchildren: Brandt Torres-Rodriguez, Brayden Rodriguez, Benny Rodriguez, Liam Wise, Tanner Wise, and her sweet baby girl, Annabel Rodriguez. Joy had three brothers and two sisters: Runt Bishop and his wife, Angie; Tim Bishop and his wife, Becky; Thomas Bishop and his wife, Nicole; Shannon Dawson Dill and her husband, Kenny; and Erica Bishop.
Joy had a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronnie Bishop, and sisters Janet Bishop, Pam Bishop Neely, Beverly Bishop, and Pam Bishop. Joy’s heart was full of love, and she had a gift for touching the lives of everyone around her.
Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
To celebrate her life, friends and family will gather at Bright-Holland Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, from 4-6 pm, and a funeral service will be held at Blossom Church of God on Tuesday at 4 pm.
Casket bearers will be: Michael DiGiovanni, Rusty Hamil, Brody Thoms, Kory Wenzel, Rodger Boren, and Roland Dill.
