On December 11, 2020, Glenn I. Bowers passed from his life. He was born July 28, 1938; Lamar County, Paris, Texas to Winifred H. and Ruth K. Stone Bowers. Third of eight children (six boys and two girls).
He was raised in West Paris attending Rosa Pearson Elementary and Paris High.
After moving to Dallas, at the young age of 16; he finished his education at Crozier-Tech High, Dallas and also went to General Motors Mechanic Training Center in Garland. Auto repair would be the grounds for many of his lifelong accomplishments.
In 1958, he married Bobbie Sue Oakes. They were blessed with three sons (David, Joe and Andy).
In 1962, the family returned to Paris; he worked as a mechanic until a new company (Superior Switchboard) started hiring. Glenn was one of the original 13 employees-installing equipment and support systems. While at Superior Switchboard, he was trained as a tool and die maker/machinist.
After his divorce in 1967, he relocated to Dallas working for Texas Instruments and Collins Radio.
He demonstrated in 1969, he was not afraid of a challenge. Finding a new wife, Linnell Witte Allen and daughter Nedra of Grand Prairie. Blend these three sons (David, Joe and Andy) and you have a fine family.
In 1971, he and Jerry, his brother, formed a partnership-machine shop located in Plano.
In 1973, change was again in the air; he relocated his family to Paris and started working for Merico Inc. as a Maintenance/machinist.
In 1978, the business man in him was not satisfied. He opened Accurate Machine Parts-Paris. He operated this business until health problems forced him to sell during 1999.
All through these years he had been a long time drag racer. Building and racing many different types of cars (front engine normally aspirated dragster, rear engine blown alcohol dragsters, lastly but not least blown alcohol Hemi funny car), but health problems sadly ended all of these adventures.
Health related retirement was not his choice, but he needed something to keep his body and mind busy. From his younger years as a teenager, he returned to his love of British motorcycles.
He purchased and restored several bikes: 1951 BSA A-7 Star Twin, 1952 BSA A-10 Golden Flash, 1968 BSA 650cc 70’s style chopper and 1971 Triumph Bonneville. He also owned and rode a 2001 Triumph Bonneville.
Preceding Glenn in death were his parents Winifred H. and Ruth K Stone Bowers, also brother Gene Bowers of California, infant brother William Nick Bowers, son David Glenn Bowers of Powderly, a sister, Ruth Ann Vickers of Paris, and a sister-in-law, Lynn Bowers of Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife, Linnell Witte Allen Bowers of Caviness, son Joe Bowers and Glenn’s only granddaughter, Cassidy of Paris, son Andy Bowers of Alba, daughter Nedra Allen and Robert (Bob) Morton of Powderly. Three brothers survive, Jerry Bowers and wife Charlotte of Plano, Sammie Bowers of Louisiana and Dean Bowers and wife LeeAnn of Florida. One sister survives, Mary Webb of Huntsville along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family visitation will be at Bright-Holland Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 13th from 4-5 p.m. A private graveside is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14th at Hopewell Cemetery with Rev.
