John Allen “Dub” Huffman passed away peacefully in his home August 14, 2018, surrounded by his family after a two year battle with cancer.

He was born August 29, 1933, to Erin and Lillie Huffman in Pecan Gap, Texas. He graduated from Paris High School in 1952 then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy 1953-1955. He married Jerrie Maner on June 1, 1956.

In 1949 he and his father became Ham operators. With his call letters, W5JXV he enjoyed talking and exchanging cards with people all over the world. His love of radios and electronics followed him to the Navy as he worked as a radio operator on the ship, USS Des Moines. After leaving the Navy he continued operating as a Ham, where he would patch loved ones often between countries linking them during times of devastation such as hurricanes, civil uprisings, earthquakes, etc. He volunteered Ham mobile services assisting Paris with communications during potential tornadoes and actively provided updates before, during, and after the Paris tornado in 1982.

He was a member and President of the Paris Boat and Ski Club in the late 50’s. He and his wife joined the North Star 8 Square Dance Club where we went on to serve as President for the club several terms. After many years of service, the club members dedicated the dance hall in their honor – The J&J Huffman Square Dance Hall. His vast collection of country music was shared with friends to “Boot Scoot” to on Monday nights. He would bring his equipment and DJ joking that he was doing his part keeping the old people off the streets.

After retiring from a 45-year career with Westinghouse/Phillips Lighting, he and his wife of 62 years traveled and enjoyed many adventures near and far.

In addition to the hobbies above, he enjoyed many others through the years such as; speedboat racing, model airplane building, and flying, woodworking, computers, etc. But above all, he loved being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather most.

Survived by his wife, Jerrie, children; LaDonna (Garry) Cole, Tracy Huffman, and Melissa (Ronnie) Daniels. Grand Children; Cody Cole, Logan (Blake) Divin and Kelsey Daniels. Great grandchildren; Brayden and Landree Divin; sister, Billie Sue McFadden and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Erin Earl Huffman; mother, Lillie Mae Huffman; and sister Corrine Janet Huffman.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17th, at the Evergreen Chapel with Rev. Mike Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Honorary casket bearers will be: LaDonna Cole, Tracy Huffman, Melissa Daniels, Cody Cole, Logan Divin and Kelsey Daniels.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
