James Earl Owens, 87, passed away on March 5, 2024, at Paris Regional Health following a long battle with Parkinson’s.
James was born March 9, 1936, in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Ted and Monnie Keelin Owens. He graduated from North Hopkins High School and from Lamar Business College in Paris. He worked as an accountant for the Texas Highway Department until his retirement. James married Theda Garrison Owens and they built 63 years of marriage together until her passing in September 2023. He was a member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church where he faithfully served and actively participated on various committees. In his spare time, you would often find James fishing or hunting.
Survivors include his children: Sharon Ramsey and husband, Dan, of Blossom, Sandra Taack of Paris, Rick Johnson and wife, Debbie, of Paris and Susan Tolleson of Paris, sister-in-law, Vella Risinger and husband, Billy, of Reno. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Theda, his parents, one sister, Glenna McQuerry, one brother, Troy Owens, and son-in-law, Lyle Taack.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks for the special care given to their loved one from the fifth floor nursing team of Paris Regional Health and from Jessica and the team from Elara Caring Hospice during his final days. Also, thanks to the nurses and staff at Heritage House and Platinum Hospice for the care given to our loved one while in long term care.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 9th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Judd Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
