An informational meeting will be held tonight, June 19, at 6:30 p.m. to provide more information about BESS (Battery Electric Storage Systems) projects, including agreements with the county and opportunities for County Commissioners to halt these projects until safety concerns are addressed.
Lamar County Watchdogs recently shared an updated map of the BESS project (see below).
“Our research shows that the areas impacted by possible fires at the sites could include the areas indicated by the yellow. Population density in those areas is also shown. BESS fires can not be fought by typical methods (no water) and have historically been left to burn out,” said Travis Peters, Director of Communications for Lamar County Watchdogs.
The informational meeting will be held at Springlake Baptist Church on Clarksville Street.
LC Watchdog said on June 23, there are two opportunities for the public to voice their opinions with County Commissioners.
- 9am at the Commissioner’s Courtroom: Mockingbird BESS Tax Abatement Meeting
- 5:30pm at the Commissioner’s Courtroom: Public hearing regarding the Star Dairy Solar, LLC project
“The optimal means to ensure the safety of Lamar County residents is the formation of a 391 Regional Planning Commission which has a mandate and authority to improve the health, safety, and general welfare of their residents. We strongly encourage the City of Paris and Lamar County join together to create a Regional Planning Commission as soon as possible.”
