Thanks to a new rule titled the ‘Inpatient Prospective System Rule’, which is part of the Medicare program, hospitals throughout the U.S will now be required to post their pricing online, bringing forth a new level of transparency, making prices for services both more readily assessable, and user-friendly.
Hospitals were previously required to make their pricing open to the public, but this new rule will make those public prices more readily available, which should prove to be beneficial for the general public when faced with both financial and health concerning decisions.
The movement towards this new rule reflects our nations ongoing efforts to encourage patients to be more knowledgeable and well-educated while making decisions concerning their well-being and healthcare.
HHS Secretary Azar said in regards to the movement towards this new rule, “America’s healthcare system has to change… This payment proposal takes important steps towards a Medicare system that puts patients in charge of their care.”
