It’s “Gene Watson” day at the Red River Valley Fair.

The country music legend will take the stage tonight starting at 8 p.m. but fans better get there early to get a seat.

“Before the show even starts, it’s standing room only,” said KFYN 104.3FM The River personality Super Dave. “It’s definitely the busiest night of the fair each year.

Super Dave, a longtime friend and fan of Watson, was a part of the group that campaigned for the street running alongside the fairgrounds to be named ‘Gene Watson Boulevard’.

“He was celebrating his 50th year in country music in 2012 and we wanted to honor him by having the street named after him.”

Watson, an East Texas native, has been returning to Paris for over 20-years and loves nothing better than coming back home.

“East Texas is home to me and coming back for the fair each year is like a reunion with friends and family,” said Gene. “It’s one of my favorite shows of the year.”

Gates open at 6 p.m. and those wanting to see Gene Watson are encouraged to get there early and bring a lawn chair.

The show is FREE with entry into the fair – general admission is $5.
