Downtown Food Pantry in Paris usually asks the community for boxes of stuffing right before Thanksgiving each year.
This year is different.
“We were able to get stuffing already, but we’re lower on proteins than we want to be. And those who receive food from us regularly ask for tuna which we’re unable to get lately. So, we’re hoping folks will donate canned tuna instead,” said operations director Chuck Burton.
The pantry helps on average 850 families per week in Lamar County, about 24% of the local population each year. Donated canned tuna will be distributed through their normal grocery store process in November and into December.
School districts, Sunday school classes, civic clubs and businesses are creating in-house tuna drives. The pantry asks that tuna donations be cans and not in bags or other packaging.
Cans of tuna can be delivered Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon now through the deadline of November 24. Donors are asked not to leave donations outside unattended.
Brand name or generic are accepted.
