Mrs. Emma Joye McGee Simpson, age 95, of Paris, TX, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, October 24, surrounded by family at Heritage House of Paris.
She was born on October 16, 1929, in Red Springs Baylor Co., TX, a daughter of the late William Earl and Era Bell Robertson McGee.
Joye was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Wayne F. Simpson; her siblings Charles McGee and Ina Shepard; a bonus son and daughter inlaw, Dewayne and Pam Simpson.
She was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Paris for over fifty years where she was a member of the Friendship Class, participated in Disciple Bible Studies, volunteered in the church office, and maintained the church’s landscaping. She possessed a true servant’s heart, and spent much time in prayer for her loved ones. She had a thirty-year career with Texas Power and Light. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, chauffeuring her bowling team to tournaments around the state, visits to Branson, Missouri, laughter-filled evenings around the table playing hand and foot, mah jong, and 42 with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a sharp wit and a keen sense of humor, and was always prepared to make you laugh!
Joye is survived by her daughter Barbie Ricks (Bob), grandchildren Jordan Ricks (Rebecca), Stacey Brockway (Norman), Alan Simpson (Melanie), six great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday October 28, at Calvary United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kevin Strempke officiating. Interment will follow in the Restland Cemetery in Roxton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Joye’s grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
