Lamar County has seen some wild weather today already and it doesn’t look like the county is completely out of the woods yet.

The National Weather Service said that the early morning storm that passed through produced wind gusts of up to 65 mph with the Blossom area seeing the worst damage.

According to Lamar County Emergency Manager Quincy Blount, the wind gusts felt in Blossom produced damage around the school and on Divison St.

A small outbuilding sustained the worst damage from a tree falling on it. In the same street, Reno Volunteer Fire Department was called to respond to an electrical fire of a power pole that jumped to a nearby tree.

The damage for Blossom didn’t end there as the school sign alongside other roadside trees fell from the strong gusts as they moved through the area.

Faught Volunteer Fire Department also responded to areas along FM 196 and FM 195 helping clear debris off the roadways and driveways as to not delay any local morning commutes.

Brookstown also sustained minor wind damage as trees fell within the area from the storm moving through.

Now as we look to this evening, another round of storms with the same potential of strong winds is making its way towards the county.

The storm cells looking to move through late this afternoon and possibly last a few hours. Meteorologists anticipate storms beginning to develop between 4 – 6 p.m. and last through until around 10 p.m. this evening.

Strong winds, heavy rain alongside the potential for hail and low possibility of tornado development are what meteorologists are believing could come from the expected storm cells.

“With any expected strong to severe weather, everyone should stay updated on forecasts so they can best prepare for any expected changes,” Blount said.
