AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of the public and state officials during the upcoming Texas Inauguration of Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick at the Texas State Capitol in Austin on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019.

Due to security and safety challenges that accompany open air events, DPS will leverage multiple department resources to enhance the safety of all attendees. Those resources will include Texas State Troopers, the Motorcycle Unit, Bicycle Unit, Mounted Horse Patrol Unit, canine teams and new technology, including the department’s unmanned aerial systems — all of which will provide law enforcement patrol capabilities for the event.

The department is also reminding the public that in accordance Government Code §411.061, unmanned aerial vehicles may not be operated in or over state property, including land and buildings in the Capitol Complex, which includes the Texas State Capitol.
