The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating two separate wrecks in Fannin County in the past week that left an eight-year old girl from Trenton and an 87-year old man dead.
According to the report, the first incident occurred on Sept. 1, 2023, around 9:40 p.m. on State Highway 78, 0.5 miles south of Bailey, Texas.
Preliminary investigation indicates a pedestrian, 87-year old Kenneth Duckworth, was walking northbound along the edge of the pavement in a non-lighted area when he was struck by a vehicle.
The 57-year old driver of the vehicle was not injured and the investigation is ongoing.
The second wreck occurred at 10 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2023, on FM-151, 2 miles north of Trenton, Texas, involving a single vehicle.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Cadillac XTS, driven by 36-year old Kyle Wilson of Trenton, Texas, was traveling northbound, entering a curve at an unsafe speed.
Wilson failed to navigate the curve, causing the vehicle to skid off the roadway, striking a metal pipe fence and a tree.
According to the report, there were four passengers in the vehicle along with the driver – two adults and three minors – were all transported to local hospitals.
An eight-year old girl was later, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was later pronounced deceased.
The driver and a 10-year old boy, both not wearing seatbelts, were transported with critical injuries.
No additional information is available at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
