The city of Detroit is hosting a slew of activities throughout Saturday, July 3, beginning with fireman’s pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., and ending the day with fireworks.
The fireman’s breakfast at 7 a.m. will be at the fire department, 205 S.W. 1st Street. The organization will serve breakfast until they either run out of food or patrons. Money raised from the fireman’s breakfast goes toward the fire department.
“It is their largest fundraiser each year. The Detroit VFD is a huge asset to not only our town but to the surrounding communities. They are always on standby for fires, wrecks, emergencies both in and out of city limits.”
At 10 a.m., the parade will start at 3rd Street S.E., east of the elementary school on Highway 82. Anyone who wishes to enter – car, ATV, horse, golf cart, etc just needs to show up and get in line before the parade’s start.
The parade will run along Front Street – parallel to highway 82 – around the block at E. San Diego and then come back down Front Street, ending at the elementary school.
Also at 10 am., there will be a bake sale at the tabernacle, and proceeds will go toward the girls’ athletics.
At about 10:30 a.m. at the tabernacle:
- Chicken foot;
- Dominos; and
- Cornhole.
Ending the day of festivities, the firework celebration will begin at dark and shoot from the city park. Prior to the fireworks show, at the ballpark, there will be hotdog baskets for sale to go toward next year’s fireworks show. The organization is also taking donations for fireworks. Snow cones and candy will also be for sale at the concession stand and proceeds go toward DYSA.
As the city’s second year for fireworks, this year’s round was paid for by donors collected during last year’s show and throughout the year.
Detroit’s community has historically held a fish fry fundraiser for the Alumni. However, due to COVID-19, it wasn’t held in 2020 and are postponing it once more. The fundraiser is expected to resurface in 2022.
