As the 91st Texas FFA State Convention begins to wind down and winners are announced, one northeast Texas student has claimed a championship title.

On Tuesday, Detroit FFA student Cole Carpenter clinched the 2019 Texas FFA Rodeo State Championship Tie-Down Roping title.

“Cole won the Championship and the Average by catching all three calves and winning 1st in Round 1 and 1st in Round 2,” said Detroit FFA. “Way to go Cole! We are very proud of you.”

Along with holding the covented title, Carpenter won a belt buckle and a $1,000 scholarship.

Held in Fort Worth, Texas, July 15-19,  at the Fort Worth Convention Center, the week-long gathering brings together more than 13,500 members and guests.

Current delegates will elect the 2019-2020 state officers on Thursday, July 18 with the President and First Vice President announcement taking place at the final general session on Friday, July 19.

This year’s convention also marks the 50th anniversary of women gaining full Texas FFA membership privileges. In 1968, Texas FFA President Bill Sarpalius moved the motion to admit women as members in the national organization. During the 1969 Texas FFA Convention in Fort Worth, with Sarpalius presiding, delegates approved an amendment to the state’s constitution giving the green light to admit young women to membership in the Texas FFA.
