The Lamar County Chamber of Commerce has launched a new series called Nods to Non-Profits.

“Lamar County is blessed to have so many organizations that care about the community,” said Lamar County Chamber president Paul Allen.

“The wide variety of services are truly amazing. There are countless hours put in by volunteers that help each organization be successful.”

Lamar County Chamber of Commerce’s first Nod to Non-Profits is Cypress Basin Hospice.

Cypress Basin was founded in 1986 by a group of local civic-minded individuals who envisioned a community-centered organization that supported their friends and families through the last weeks and months of an illness.

These founders worked tirelessly to raise the needed funds and spent countless hours researching and then creating the right kind of organization to serve that purpose.

Over the years Cypress Basin Hospice has been asked to expand into more counties. Today they serve 16 counties, including Lamar and is known for its commitment to quality care, community, education, and integrity.

Cypress Basin Hospice has exceeded the expectations of its original founders, proud of its “non-profit” status, and remains true to the vision which led to its development “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”.

Cypress Basin Hospice wants Lamar County to know who they are and what they do.

People many times put such a negative stigma with Hospice. They want the public to be educated about what they do.

Hospice care doesn’t have to mean the end. Care can begin early when a person has decided to take control of their life.

Some patients have even been exited out. Hospice doesn’t have to end just because things get better. This company does not look at the negative but focuses on the positives that come from their care.

The opportunities that they include are life-changing for the patient as well as the family.

They are a community-based company looking to partner with other organizations to bring the best benefit for their families they serve. They look to enhance a person’s life.

The story of a gentleman that talked about restoring and driving a 1929 Ford as a young man, and now the fine folks from Cypress Basin has located a 1929 Ford in the community and they are going to get him a ride. Or the lady that loves gardening and getting a visit from a nursey, and planting and growing things together.

These examples are stories that come from the heart and help make a difference in people’s lives. The help of volunteers makes things like this work.

They are always looking to add volunteers for multiple things.

What makes Cypress Basin Hospice unique is that they are a Christian Based Non-Profit Company. They also serve Pediatric Hospice as well. They conduct fundraisers throughout the year and are focused on community involvement.

“How great is it to have a family member in need and not have to worry about the financial side of services that are going to be provided? Thank you, Cypress Basin Hospice, for what you do,” said Allen.
