A herd of grazing goats will help volunteers clear vacant properties during the first-ever City of Paris “Love Your Block” event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 8, no kidding. The city is partnering with Keep Paris Beautiful with the help of volunteers and our four-legged friends to beautify two neighborhood blocks through trash removal, trimming, and mowing.
“Love Your Block is about bringing people together to take pride in our community,” Planning Technician Triniti Frazier said. “With help from volunteers, and our goat partners on this event, we’re showing that small actions can lead to big improvements, one block at a time.”
Individuals and groups are encouraged to pre-register online at ParisTexas.gov/LoveYourBlock. On the day of the event, two-legged team members can corral their vehicles at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 1002 NE 5th Street, and mosey over to the corner of NE 6th and Garrett Streets to check in before the 8 a.m. start.
Volunteer hands can round up safety vests, trash bags, and trash grabbers provided by the city and KPB at the check-in location. Work will include removing litter, junk, and illegally dumped items from the area. The Greatest Of Abatement Teams (G.O.A.T.) will have all the tools they will need for the tasks. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own lawn mowers, edgers, and weed eaters.
The new Love Your Block initiative promotes environmental stewardship and civic pride by using eco-friendly landscaping methods and teamwork to create lasting change in Paris neighborhoods. More Love Your Block events will be announced in the near future.
