For over 30-years, Christians In Action have been feeding the homeless for Thanksgiving.

“The Christians In Action Thanksgiving Meal has been happening since 1986,” said organizer Melissa Wickersham. “I got involved in 1987 when I was 16-years old.”

Wickersham said her grandfather, Nathan Bell, wanted to make sure that she knew how very lucky and blessed she was.

“It has certainly been an eye-opener through the years,” said Wickersham. “But it is an opportunity for people to get together and share food and friendship.”

Each year Christians In Action serve between 300 to 500 plates of food. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy a warm meal.

“You do not have to show identification, income statement or anything else,” said Wickersham. “The meal is open to anyone.”

Paris Regional Medical Center will be providing the meal again this year and there will also be a ‘Warmth Table’ for those in need.

“This is a giveaway of socks, hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets,” explained Wickersham. “We definitely are in need of new socks, gloves, and hats, but the blankets may be very gently used as long as they are clean.”

Drop-off locations for items include Trinity Christian Academy, Nathan Bell Realtors, Paris coffee, Paris Bakery & Smokin’ Hot.

“We are so thankful for the outpouring of love that Paris has always shown this event. Youth groups, churches, and school organizations all come together to help put this on.”

Volunteers are still needed for the event. If you’d like to volunteer you can contact Melissa Wickersham at 903-366-2207.
