Peoples Choice Winner: “Deep in the Heart of Texas” by Kristin Parson of Chisum High School, acrylic

It’s been a stellar year for Chisum High School Art students and what better way to finish the school year strong than with Kristin Parson winning Texas’ 4th District Congressional Art Competitions People’s Choice.

“The artwork submitted for the Congressional Art Competition is always extremely impressive, and this year was no exception. I’d like to commend Kristin for taking home the 2019 People’s Choice title, and I wish her the best in her future endeavors,” Rep. John Ratcliffe said.

Rep. Ratcliffe (R-Texas) announced Chisum High School student Kristin Parson as the People’s Choice winner for the 2019 Congressional Art Competition this morning.

Parson beat out nine other finalists for the People’s Choice title-including two fellow Chisum classmates; Amy Wieler and Abigail Froese; which were chosen by a panel of judges who assessed submissions from high school students across the 18 counties in Texas’ 4th District.

Parson’s artwork, “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” received the most votes on Rep. Ratcliffe’s Facebook page during a two-week voting period.

“We are honored to have Kristen’s piece chosen for the People’s choice award for the Congressional art competition. There were so many beautiful pieces in the running. We look forward to her work hanging in Congressman Ratcliffe’s office for all to see,” Parson’s art teacher Mary Golden-Musick said.
