Charles Wayne Gates, age 76, of Paris

Charles Wayne Gates, age 76, of Paris, passed into eternity in the early hours of Saturday, September 15, 2018 with the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Betty, at his side.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Paris. A family visitation time will take place beginning 1 hour prior to the service, also at the church. Interment will follow at West Post Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lance Whitener, Cody Whitener, Cade Whitener, Lanny Lewis, Scott Hall, and Richard Sikes. Roden-Pryor Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne was born to Charles Fredrick and Nannie Lee Hamby Gates on November 28, 1941 in Lamar County, Texas. He was a graduate of Paris High School. With his love of working on motorcycles, he went on to a 30 year career with Paris Harley-Davidson Honda Yamaha. He was very happy to have worked his last few years before retirement with his son, Tim. Wayne was a self-taught man in many areas, including a wide knowledge of history and playing bass. He and Betty enjoyed traveling, especially to their beloved Colorado. He was a good husband and father who loved his family deeply.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kenny Gates, who died in 1986. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Gates; a son, Tim Gates and wife, Tonya; two grandchildren, Taylor Gates and Tieren Gates; two sisters, Kay Vanderberg and Debbie Upchurch; as well as nieces and nephews and other loving family members.
