My mission statement as Tax Assessor would be to create a very efficient, helpful, and respectful staff to assist all the hard-working taxpayers of Lamar County. It is my desire to make the process of paying taxes as smooth as possible.
Brooke Hill, a Lamar County native and Assistant Chief Deputy at the Lamar County Tax Office for the past 11-years, announced her candidacy for Lamar County Tax Assessor in the upcoming March elections.
“It has been my pleasure to serve the Lamar County citizens in the Tax Assessor’s office since July of 2012. My grandad, Ronnie Porterfield, knew I would love this job, and I am grateful that Haskell hired me into his office,” said Hill. “It’s been a goal of mine to one day serve the citizens of Lamar County as your Tax Assessor and I am honored and privileged to finally have the opportunity to do so.”
Born and raised in Paris, Texas, Hill graduated from Paris High School in 2009 where she was active in sports and other school activities and was crowned Homecoming Queen in her senior year.
A devoted wife and mother, Hill and her high school sweetheart, Courtney, have been together 17-years and have four children together — Kasen (10), Kance (5), Kallen (21 months), and Kennadi (10 months).
“To know him (Courtney) is to love him and he has the brightest personality and is such a role model for our younger generation, especially in coaching and mentoring kids in sport activities,” said Hill. “Our four fearfully and wonderfully made children are my driving force, along with the residents of Lamar County in running for Tax Assessor.”
Throughout her time at the Lamar County Tax Office, Hill has trained and supervised staff, and learned the majority of the ins-and-outs of the Tax Assessors office.
“I have proven myself worthy through hard work and dedication, while having a front row seat in the office. I have the leadership skills and the positive attitude this office requires. Working here has been a huge part of my life, I had all four of my children while working in this office, and this is what I’ve worked so hard for — to finally get this opportunity to run for Tax Assessor.”
As a Christian, Hill believes in the “Golden rule,” to treat others the way you desire to be treated, and that is what she has strived to do during her time at the Lamar County Tax Office.
“I believe my experience will ensure a smooth and flawless transition to replace Haskell Maroney as he steps down for retirement. I will continue to work hard in this office for the community and I am confident that I am the most experienced and qualified person for the Tax Assessor position.”
A ‘Meet & Greet’ with Hill will be held on on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Holiday Inn Express (3025 NE Loop 286 in Paris) beginning at 3 p.m. For more information on Brooke Hill, click here
