Bobby Dean Cope, O.D. was born in Paris, Texas on April 12, 1935 and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2024.He was the only child of Archie and Winnie Cope.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and Barbara Charlene (Brown) Cope were married in 1956 in Paris, Texas and enjoyed much happiness over their decades together. He is survived by Charlene and his two children: Ronald Cope and wife Sandie of Arlington, Texas and Philip Cope and wife Lisa of Charlotte, North Carolina and their three children Lindsey, Emily and Robert Cope.
Dr. Cope served the Waxahachie community as an optometrist for 44 years, first joining in practice with Dr. Jim Gill in 1961. Bob truly enjoyed his patients and his practice and working as an active participant in the broader community. He served as past president of the Texas Optometric Association and as president of the Lions Club of Waxahachie. He loved working with his hands and enjoyed plumbing, electrical and carpentry work as a hobby. He was also a ham radio operator and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a radio operator.
Bob and Charlene are long time members of First Baptist Church, with Bob having served as a deacon among other responsibilities.
Bob and Charlene have enjoyed excellent care and help at Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Baylor Scott White clinics and hospital.
A memorial service will be held at Bose Mitchell McKibbon Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas at 1:30 p.m. on March 14, 2024. The family will hold a graveside service the following day at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Texas.
