With her sisters, “Sassy” and “Jones” lovingly by her side, Amy Danielle Robertson also known as Ms. Amy or “Honey” departed this life and gained a new healthy heavenly body on Monday, August 17, 2026. For the last few weeks leading up to her passing Amy’s room was filled with loving family members and friends.
Amy was born January 24, 1976, in West Memphis, Arkansas and grew up in nearby Lepanto, where she still has numerous childhood friends she has kept in touch with over the years. When she moved to Red River County with her family and enrolled at Detroit High School, little did anyone know how much of an impact the “wild child” of the three siblings would have on that school and future generations of students.
Amy devoted 20 years of dedicated service to Detroit ISD. She began her career with the Detroit Head Start program and later transitioned to the elementary library where she found a special way to connect with students and foster a lifelong love of reading.
Amy was a true light to those around her. She had an extraordinary ability to make children feel seen, heard, valued and loved. She was a natural “kid magnet” and her genuine care for students was evident in everything she did.
Her passion for literacy was at the heart of her work. Amy embraced the belief that “readers make leaders” and continually found creative ways to motivate and celebrate her students as readers. One memorable example was her effort to secure donated bicycles as grand prizes for the district’s top AR readers—an initiative that reflected her commitment to encouraging students to read and succeed. Amy’s influence extended well beyond the library. She was deeply loved and respected by students, staff, families and the Detroit community. Her kindness, dedication and commitment to children left an enduring impact on the entire Detroit ISD family.
Amy is survived by her husband Rob Robertson, sons Waylan Crutchfield and Hunter Crutchfield, step-children Stormy Robertson, Tarren Keelie Duerksen and husband Jason, Madison Robertson, Will Robertson and wife Melody and their daughters Emerson and Sabree, who she loved dearly. At the time of her passing Amy was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her granddaughter Lynnan Crutchfield.
She is also survived by her sisters Shannon “Sassy”’ Wilmeth and husband Trey; and Miranda “Jones” Morrison and husband Jeff; nephews Samuel Bryant and wife Michelle, Brooks Morrison and Fischer Morrison; great nephews Brody, Owen, Eli and great niece Everly, and Winford “Pops” Davis who she helped look after and who held a special place in her heart. Amy also leaves behind numerous family members and very close friends, her precious little dog CiCi that she would often take to the library with her; and her dogs Flower, Pepper and Elvis.
She was proceeded in death by her mom Ann Davis and her father Charles “Pete” Coley.
Visitation is Thursday, August 20 from 6-8 pm at Bright-Holland Funeral Home and her service will be Friday, August 21 at 2 pm at the Glenn Townes Memorial Gymnasium in Detroit with Rev. Don Shovan officiating.
Amy’s final resting place will be at the Bluff Cemetery in Detroit.
Pall bearers will be Rob Robertson, Waylan Crutchfield, Hunter Crutchfield, Samuel Bryant, Brooks Morrison, Fischer Morrison, Kody Golightly, and Cole Nichols.
If anyone would like to make donations in her honor the family asks for them be made to the Detroit ISD library, the Bluff Cemetery Association or to your favorite charity or organization.
