Seven people were arrested and numerous firearms, narcotics, vehicles and suspected drug proceeds were seized during a multi-agency operation targeting a narcotics distribution ring in Fannin County early Thursday morning.
According to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, investigators, communications personnel, patrol deputies and the Special Response Team executed search and arrest warrants at three locations around 6 a.m. on Aug. 13 following a months-long investigation.
SWAT teams from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety assisted with the operation.
Two of the locations were within the Bonham city limits, while the third was in an unincorporated area of Fannin County.
Authorities said seven arrests were made during the operation and numerous firearms were seized, along with narcotics, proceeds believed to be connected to drug distribution and vehicles allegedly used to distribute narcotics.
The Sheriff’s Office also reported that a location on Lakeview Drive in Bonham was allegedly being used to house people who were in the country illegally. Four arrests were made at that location.
Officials noted that residents in the area may have heard loud noises during the execution of the warrants. According to the Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement used distraction devices during the operation, but no gunshots were fired by anyone involved.
One suspect attempted to flee during the operation but was apprehended by a law enforcement K-9 before leaving the property, authorities said.
The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office thanked the National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and Bonham Police Department for assisting with the investigation and operation.
“The Sheriff’s Office will continue working to get narcotics activity and distribution off our streets to further protect our communities,” the department said in a statement. “The individuals involved in these trafficking operations pose a danger to the public, our communities and our families. It will not be tolerated in Fannin County.”
The Sheriff’s Office said no additional information will be released at this time.
