The Rodgers Wade and Paris ISD Adult Programming Classes wrapped up another successful year Friday with a special end-of-year awards luncheon celebrating the accomplishments, dedication and growth of adult learners across the program.
Students were recognized for achievements including perfect attendance, highest Burlington English learning hours, growth in English language skills and perseverance in conversational Spanish classes. The celebration highlighted not only academic success, but also the commitment students made to investing in themselves and their futures.
Approximately 50 students enrolled in the program this year across multiple class offerings, including two Rodgers Wade English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, one Rodgers Wade Conversational Spanish class, one Paris ISD ESL Parent class and one Paris ISD Staff Conversational Spanish class.
Program organizers said one of the most meaningful aspects of the initiative is the dedication shown by Paris ISD teachers, who volunteered to teach classes on Fridays when there was no professional development scheduled. Their willingness to serve both district employees and community members reflects the spirit of #WildcatNation and the district’s commitment to lifelong learning.
A special acknowledgment was given to John Hamer, who founded and continues to fund the program. Organizers credited his vision and support with helping create opportunities for adults in the community to improve language skills, build confidence and expand future opportunities.
Superintendent Althea Dixon was also recognized for supporting the program and allowing the use of district facilities for classes throughout the year.
Leaders involved with the program said the excitement is already building for next year, as Hamer has pledged continued support to help expand and grow the classes for the upcoming academic year.
Organizers said the success of the program serves as a reminder that learning has no age limit and that education continues to open doors for people of all backgrounds and experiences.
