A generous Downtown Food Pantry donor has issued a challenge: they will match all gifts up to $20,000 in the month of March.
“Imagine! Your donation is doubled,” said executive director Allan Hubbard. “That means double the milk, double the bread, double the vegetables, double the pasta, double the ground beef & chicken that we give away to families in need here in Lamar County.”
A grocery store choice-style pantry, free groceries are distributed Tuesdays 1:30-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 8:30-11:30 a.m. all year long. Proof of local address must be brought when signing up.
Between 850-900 families are served every week.
“We spend a tremendous amount of money every month, every year, helping our neighbors in need,” Hubbard said. “This will make it go even further.”
The pantry is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Every $10 donated provides groceries to make 30 meals.
