An effort is underway to relocate Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower to downtown Paris, however the proposal is being met with mixed reviews.
At the upcoming Lamar County Commissioners Court meeting on Nov. 10, 2025, District 6 City Council Member Alex Putnam and Paris Area Arts Alliance President Carolyn Patterson are scheduled to present a proposal to relocate the Paris Eiffel Tower to downtown Paris. (Click here to see agenda)
In a presentation circulating online, it claims that “relocating the Eiffel Tower downtown immediately funnels foot traffic to small businesses, restaurants, and local retailers.”
“The new location encourages walking, lingering, and local exploration – vital for a healthy downtown. It creates synergy with existing assets. Downtown already has charm, history, and shopping – placing the tower there strengthens and unifies our community.”
According to the presentation, the City of Paris, EDC and Chamber of Commerce hired Norstar in 2022 to help with strategic branding and to develop a unified logo.
One of the recommendations in the final creative presentation, was that the Eiffel Tower be placed downtown by the courthouse.
Located beside the Love Civic Center, Paris’ Eiffel Tower was built in 1993 by members of the local welders’ union as a tribute to the famous landmark in Paris, France.
However, the iconic attraction hasn’t always featured the iconic red Stetson cowboy hat that it wears today.
The hat was not added until 1998 when boosters voted it deserved a “little more character,” and, reportedly, to add another 5-feet to the top, in a competitive spirit, to be taller the Paris, Tennessee’s replica.
The Eiffel Tower is open to the public to visit any time of the year.
