Jimmie Kenneth Parson passed from this life on October 26, 2025 at the age of 101 at his home in Garrett’s Bluff. He was born March 2, 1924 in the community of Rawhide, Texas to Carrye McCraw Parson and William Melvin Parson.
After graduating from Chicota School, he fulfilled his service in the US Army spending most of his time in Japan, on his way to Japan he spent two weeks in the harbor of Pearl Harbor docked next to the bombed ships, he said he was so close to them you could almost reach out and touch them. He returned home to Texas to farm.
In 1955 he went into the dairy business until 1968, and then he raised beef cattle and farmed peanuts and milo. During that time he was honored by the Lamar County Farm Bureau as conservation farmer of the year. He retired from farming at the age of 85.
He also served on the board of trustees for Chicota School for several years. He loved fishing and hunting, one of his last hunting trips was an elk hunt in Colorado with his cousin, Jack Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clifford, Leo, and Billy and the mother of his children Elsie Parson. He is survived by his four children, Linda Parson, Jim Parson and Dennis, Jana and Billy Copeland, and Lesa and Mark Schedler, his four grandchildren, Marcus and Deana Thompson, Krystal and Gavin Nelson, Sydney and Abbey Schedler. Also his four great grandchildren, Emily and Jonas Huber, Sarah Thompson, Kinley and Kamdyn Nelson.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the loving care he received from Karen Wooten with Visiting Angels for the past 2 years, also Waterford Hospice for past few months helping care for him, without their help we would have not been able to let him live his final years at home.
A private service will be held at West Post Oak Cemetery.
