Many North Lamar High School band and colorguard members have been quarantined following a student testing positive for coronavirus, according to several concerned band parents.
They say students were told on Thursday they had to quarantine for two weeks and will now, in turn, miss out on tonight‘s homecoming festivities.
The district on Friday confirmed that “many of the band members were not wearing masks and were exposed” and were required to quarantine.
According to reports, several band members spent time with the student over the weekend who tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
The mother of the student, who due to privacy reasons cannot be named, said her child has been diligent in wearing a face covering and social distancing since the beginning of the mandate.
Earlier today, students were told those who haven’t been in direct contact with the student could return to school on Monday while those who have been in direct contact are not allowed to return until Oct. 16.
North Lamar High School will crown the 2020 Homecoming King and Queen tonight during the half-time activities at R. L. Maddox Stadium. The Panthers will play Liberty Eylau that night beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The queen nominees are Hannah Crosswhite, Addison Exum, Adysen Finch, Melodie Huesca, Kendall Stephens, and Ashley Trenchard. North Lamar’s king nominees are Cody Ausmus, Jace Cooper, Wesley Crites, Andy Kirk, Trent Nickerson, and Brian Slater.
