Paris Independent School District kicked off the 2026-2027 school year with an inspiring message from nationally recognized speaker, author, and leadership expert Dr. Rick Rigsby, who challenged educators to embrace their purpose and the profound impact they have on the lives of students every day.
During the district’s annual Convocation on July 30, teachers, administrators, and support staff gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new school year and prepare to welcome students back to campus. Through heartfelt stories, humor, and powerful life lessons, Dr. Rigsby reminded staff that the greatest influence they can have is not found in a lesson plan, but in the relationships they build with students.
His presentation had the audience laughing one moment and wiping away tears the next as he encouraged every employee to recognize the difference they make in the lives of children and families.
“Dr. Rigsby was exactly what our staff needed as we begin a new school year,” said Paris ISD Superintendent Althea Dixon. “I have followed Dr. Rigsby’s podcast and leadership teachings for years, so having the opportunity to meet him in person and welcome him to Paris ISD was truly an honor. His message reminded us why we chose this profession and inspired us to continue leading with compassion, purpose, and excellence. Every person in our district plays an important role in helping our students succeed, and Dr. Rigsby’s words reignited the passion that brought so many of us into education in the first place. There couldn’t have been a more meaningful way to launch a new school year.”
The convocation also celebrated the dedication of Paris ISD employees and set the tone for the district’s 2026-2027 theme, “Every Day Is a Great Day.” Staff left energized and encouraged, ready to create meaningful connections and provide exceptional learning experiences for every Wildcat.
As the first day of school approaches, Paris ISD looks forward to another year of academic excellence, personal growth, and unwavering commitment to students.
