After what many considered a ‘freak accident,’ a local family is searching for “an angel who saved my husband’s life.”
Cynthia Yoakum’s husband was rushed to the emergency room early Monday morning after two main arteries in his wrist were severed. The family is searching for a mystery woman who helped potentially save Yoakum’s husband’s life with a make-shift tourniquet.
“It really didn’t hit me yesterday,” Yoakum said, holding back tears. “I know we’re grateful. Very grateful. I think she was an angel. She was in the right place at the right time for him to live.”
She said they would like to personally thank the lady and her husband for helping save Kelly, her husband.
“If it was not for her promptness to act – calling 9-1-1 and wrapping his main arteries in the wrist – he may not be alive today,” Yoakum said. “She was a true angel, and we are forever grateful for her sharpness and knowledge. God placed her at the right moment at the exact right time.
Yoakum said Kelly helped a family friend with some yard work, picked a couple of pink roses and told her he was on his way home.
However, “as a lot of husbands do, didn’t tell me he was going to look at four-wheelers.”
As Kelly was leaving the four-wheeler dealership, he somehow wedged his truck in-between two metal poles in the parking lot of Chapman’s Paris Honda Yamaha. When his truck became wedged, the driver-side mirror broke off, came through the window and severed two arteries in his right arm.
Using a hunting jacket – presumed to be brand new as the tags were still attached – as a make-shift tourniquet, the mystery woman potentially saved Kelly’s life.
“As he’s calling for help, ‘call 9-1-1! Call 9-1-1!’” she said, “this lady comes over to help. And he told her to call me.”
Yoakum said when she answered the phone, she thought she was talking to the family friend, Ginger.
“‘Yes, Ginger?’ She said, ‘Oh, this is not Ginger. Your husband has been in an incident.’” Yoakum said. “I asked three times if she meant an accident. Each time, ‘No, an incident. It’s very, very bad, and I’ve called 9-1-1. You need to get to the emergency room immediately.’”
Yoakum said Kelly underwent surgery and is in good shape after the incident, but “has a long recovery ahead.”
She said the family wants to find out who the mystery woman is and buy them a new hunting jacket.
“My husband would like to buy her husband a new hunting jacket and thank her for coming to him in his calling out for help when nobody else heard him,” she said. “Total strangers were there when he needed them. What fine people they must be. God bless them!”

“I’d like to be able to at least find her, get her a new jacket and tell her ‘Thank you. Thank you for saving his life.'”
