The famed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France was engulfed in flames on Monday leading to the collapse of the structure’s main spire.

“Everything is burning, nothing will remain from the frame,” spokesman Andre Finot told French media.

“Notre-Dame of Paris is in flames. Emotion in the whole nation. Thoughts for all Catholics and for all French,” President Emmanuel Macron tweeted. “Like all our countrymen, I’m sad to see this part of us burn.”

However, CNBC reported that the Cathedral has been saved from “total destruction,” according to a French fire official.

It is not currently known what caused the fire or whether anybody was injured. Some news outlets are reporting several firemen have been injured while saving two more towers.  The cathedral has been surrounded by scaffolding and construction work was being done.

Many locals in Paris, Texas posted this afternoon their condolences and memories of visiting the iconic location.

“Heartbreaking to see such a beautiful structure in fire.”

“Paris grieves for Paris.”
