The Paris 9U Dixie All-Star team came home with the district win over the weekend at Sulpher Springs.
Head coach Troy Scholl said he was excited to come home with the win as they now prepare for the State Tournament in Texarkana July 6-8.
“We played Mt. Pleasant and Sulpher Springs during districts,” Scholl said, “I am so happy with how they played and even happier that we won each game over the weekend.”
The team went up against Mt. Pleasant on Friday with a final score of 5-2, Saturday they met Sulpher Springs on the field, and a triple play in the in-field early in the game helped secure a 19-1 final score. Sunday they played Mt. Pleasant again for the championship and finished with 14-4 on the scoreboard for the official title win.
He now says that the team will look to move from 3-day practices to 4-day practices a week in preparation for the Texarkana State tourney.
If the local 9U boys can get the win in the upcoming state tourney, Scholl says that it would give them the opportunity to secure an invite to the 9U World Series tournament.
“We’re going to Texarkana to come home with the win,” he said, “we have a great team with around 8 pitchers, several catchers so we can keep our players fresh when they get on the field.”
Furthermore, he added that he and his coaching staff are confident after his players were able to make several key plays last weekend that they are more than prepared to tackle the upcoming eight teams they will go up against.
