Local archer, Malia Covey recently placed 3rd in the Traditional Youth category at the Hoyt Archery PRO/AM 2019 Championship in Alabama.

“There were hundreds of archers at the event and Malia was competing against kids from all over the country,” said Malia’s guardian LeAnn Yarbrough. “It was outstanding to see all the people there.”

Covey began shooting only but a year ago through a school activity program and since then, she and her team, have qualified for multiple State and National competitions.

Charles Jones with Broadhead Barn has helped Covey throughout her archery journey and got her using the Hoyt Archery grey carbon high performance 840 Target Alero Recurve Bow.

Equipped with Black Eagle Arrows, Shrewd Archery Stabilizer, and a ParaTexas Slings & Things Wrist Sling for this tournament made for a successful time in Alabama for the young archer scoring a 151 with two 12’s.

Covey is now on the Texas Broadhead Barn Pro Staff Team and plans to compete at the Easton Southwest Shoot Out here in Paris, Texas come April.

“Malia has set out to accomplish three major goals for 2019,” said Yarbrough. “Place in the Paris Pro/Am, win state in Texas ASA (Archery Shooter Association) and win Shooter of the Year at Archers for Christ.”

Congratulations Malia on your accomplishments.
