Cynthia Vetter, the wife of fallen DPS Trooper Randall Vetter, has a story that will inspire, motivate and even bring you to tears that she’ll be sharing with locals at the Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop 5K Walk In Their Shoes on June 8th.

On August 7th, 2000, DPS Trooper Vetter was killed during a traffic stop while conducting a traffic stop on I-35 in Kyle, Texas.

He was shot by a 72-year-old driver who he had stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.

Trooper Vetter had served with the Texas Department of Public Safety for six-years and at the time of his death, he and Cynthia had an eight-month-old son.

The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. He died in prison in 2008.

On June 8th, Cynthia will share her story of how the tragedy she and her son endured led her to make a difference for our men and women of law enforcement, as well as for children of fallen officers.

“We are truly honored to have Cynthia as our guest,” said Amanda Willows, the president of Lamar County Adopt a Cop. “Her inner strength is incredible and her courage is so inspirational. We are so grateful that she will be joining us.”

The ‘Lamar County Adopt a Cop 5k & Walk In Their Shoes’ event will begin at 8 a.m. at Reno City Hall.

Those wishing to hear Cynthia share her story do not have to participate in the run, walk, or cycling portion of the event.

“Cynthia will be our guest speaker and share her story during our open ceremony before we kick off the run/walk/cycle events.”

Proceeds from the 5k run/walk/cycling portion of the event will be used to purchase safety equipment for Lamar County law enforcement and first responders.

Registration forms are available at Reno City Hall or register online here (https://runsignup.com/lamarcountyadoptacop ).
