With help from the VanDeaver Family Light Show, about 5 miles south of Loop 286 on FM 905, Bethel Baptist Church’s Youth Group will raise money tonight and Saturday (Dec. 16 & 17) to go toward the group’s student ministry.
The VanDeaver Family Light Show:
- 10121 FM 905
- nightly from 5:30 p.m.-midnight
- radio station at the show, 91.1 FM
From 6-8 p.m. tonight and Saturday, the youth group will hand out candy canes while taking in donations during the VanDeaver Family Light Show, which features more than 65,000, computer-programed lights, not counting traditional lights.
The group is expected to travel to a a youth conference in Branson, Missouri, the week after Christmas featuring a speaker who grew up in a rough neighborhood in Denver, Colorado; who, also at just 15, preached the Gospel during his grandfather’s funeral.
When Greg Stier was 15, his grandfather had a heart attack, and while in the hospital, one of Stier’s uncles told him, “when dad dies, we want you to do the sermon at his funeral.”
“Their whole goal was to have Uncle Richard to hear the gospel at the funeral,” Stier said. “Many people came to Christ. My Uncle Richard did not. But in that moment, I felt the power of the Holy Spirit and the call that I’m called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
The money raised from tonight and Saturday’s donations will go toward the group’s trip to Branson and other youth events thereafter. The VanDeaver Family Light Show, 10121 FM 905, lights up nightly from 5:30 p.m.-midnight and its radio station at the show is 91.1 FM.
